Description

There is growing agreement in the medical community that mental factors such as stress significantly contribute to a lack of physical health. Research shows that meditation induces a host of biochemical and physical changes in the body collectively referred to as the "relaxation response." The relaxation response includes changes in metabolism, heart rate, respiration, blood pressure and brain chemistry. As a method of stress reduction, meditation has been used in hospitals in cases of chronic or terminal illness to reduce complications associated with increased stress that include depressed immune systems.

" Pocket Meditation Retreat" is a companion application for " Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond" . It is a meditation handbook written by Ajahn Brahm , a forest monk for over 30 years and the Founder of Jhana Grove Meditation Retreat Center. He won a scholarship to study theoretical physics at Cambridge University , graduating with first-class honor before becoming a monk in the forest tradition. As a young monk, he lived in a simple meditation hut amidst nature while developing his spiritual practice. Today he is a sought-after meditation teacher who conducts meditation retreat in various locations around the world.

Everyday, we nourish the body with food three times a day. We also do all sorts of things to satisfy the mind. For example, accumulate more things, compete in the rat race, enhance our image, and entertainments, etc. The mind cannot be made to feel satisfied or fulfilled by material forms or objects , because it is more like an energy frequency than a tangible form. It requires energy that come from stillness rather than things.

Whenever we nourish the body with food, why not spend some time to nourish the mind with energy from stillness as well. We do this by allowing the mind to rest in stillness without restless activities within and without during meditation. Just a few times a day can relax and rejuvenate the mind and body. It helps to bring some mental and emotional balance into our lives, because we are giving the mind what it truly needs. For example, spending 30 minutes before breakfast, 30 minutes before lunch, 30 minutes before dinner. That's about one and a half hour each day. If you don't have one and a half hour, maybe instead of watching 3 hours of TV a day try watching TV for 2 hours instead. It's also nice to go on retreat one day a week.

Being rooted in stillness should be in your life whether you are engaged in a lot of doing or not. It can serves as a foundation for whatever you do, because there is an important relationship between your thoughts and your actions . When you stay connected with stillness in whatever you do, then whatever you do will likely be in alignment with the peace and harmony within.

Previous version was better

:
This is a helpful multi-purpose app for meditators.

That said, the previous version was better in many ways despite the added features of this version. The UI looks worse and the illustrated life story of the Buddha was also better on the previous version. The Buddha's life story was my main reason for keeping this app. I'll probably delete it now, not because it's a bad app, but no longer useful since I use a different style meditation timer.
